About Me
WELCOME to Moving Forward Counseling Services! I am Bethany and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Addiction Counselor in both MN and ND. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults and have loved my time with every age group. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to work with people. When I was in high school, it was my school counselor who told me about Social Work and suggested that would be a good avenue for me to pursue. After I took my first social work class, I was hooked and have never looked back. I received a Bachelors degree in Social Work in 2003 and Masters degree in Social Work in 2008. I also hold a license to provide substance use counseling, which is a passion of mine. My career consists of 20 years of experience in a variety of different settings. When I first graduated college, I worked within a school (K-12) for a program called the Family Outreach Program connecting home and school. I worked as a social worker at Prairie St John's before I became an addiction counselor there and later the Director of the Chemical Dependency Department. I had the opportunity to be an Integrated Health Therapist at Sanford for 7 years working within the Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Pediatrics departments providing diagnostic assessments and therapy to youth and adults. Most recently, I have been the school social worker at an Alternative Learning Center working with kids in grades 7-12 and their families. I have absolutely loved all of these opportunities and am grateful for each and every person I have worked with along the way. Although you can learn so much from adequate education and training, the greatest lessons I have learned have come from those who have been the best teachers of life, my clients. Each person has a unique story and I am so grateful to have been able to hear so many and assist them along the way.
Because no story or individual is the same, I utilize a variety of evidenced based models to best fit you. I provide brief and long term therapy utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), addiction services (individually and family), Motivational Interviewing, ADHD evaluations to name a few.
I also offer and provide supervision to other professionals who are either required by their licensing board to obtain this or who are simply looking for support in this area.
Outside of counseling, I am a mom of 4 beautiful souls and a wife to my husband of 14 years. Much of my time is spent going to activities for my kids. I enjoy doing almost anything outside, playing and watching sports, and being with friends and family. My absolute happy place is at the lake especially during the Fall where I can embrace the peace and quiet and serenity it seems to bring.

Moving Forward Counseling Services offers effective outpatient, individualized, care to people seeking help with life's challenges. I treat a number of mental health disorders, and substance use concerns using multiple methods tailored to each individual and their needs while providing a neutral ground to individuals, families, and couples.
Treatment Focus
My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. I achieve this by providing a safe space, listening intently, and customizing a treatment plan that is tailored to you. I believe that everyone has a story that is unique and I will strive to honor that story and meet each person where they are at.
